Built in 1975

The Achiles 24 was designed by Oliver Lee as a cruising variant of his Ajax racing keelboat in 1971, they are a fairly fast and a very seaworthy small cruiser, with simple accommodation for two (or four at a pinch). She has been professionally resprayed and fully antifouled. As would be expected in a yacht derived from a racing keelboat, and with a better than 55% ballast ratio, performance is good. They are popular club racers, and in their early days achieved a remarkable record in long-distance sailing, including one being the smallest boat to complete the 1976 OSTAR singlehanded transatlantic race, sailed by Chris Butler, her builder.

Owners notes:
We have concentrated on updating the domestic arrangements as we have used the boat mainly as a liveaboard. Firstly we designed a cockpit canopy which allows a covered walk through between the aft cabin and the rest of the boat. This was made for us by Penrose sailmakers and is as far as I know unique for a Neptunian. Then we put in Webasto diesel heating throughout the boat with controls in the aft cabin. We also had the dinette/ second double berth reupholstered using high quality foam. Last year we fitted a new Plastimo cooker, Lavac seatoilet, fresh sanitary house and outlet seacock. This year in addition to having the engine removed and the new gearbox fitted we have put in a new houdini saloon hatch and revarnished all the interior woodwork. ...more

The accommodation is extremely generous and consists of two spacious double cabins with excellent headroom, an en-suite heads for the fwd cabin, an owners double cabin with adjacent large aft heads/shower room, and a very comfortable saloon with a large dining area. To port is a superb nav station with extensive stowage and working room.

Being the owners version she also has a particularly large L shaped galley with plenty of workspace. The galley has a double sink and has both a top and front loading fridge.

The whole feel throughout the interior is one of light and space with the overall condition of the woodwork and upholstery being in almost as new condition.
